On September 18th, I had the pleasure of capturing Tia and Ryan’s beautiful wedding. Their wedding took place at Skyloft Ski Resort in Uxbridge, Ontario. I absolutely loved that venue, especially the view! Although the two planned for an outdoor ceremony overlooking the ski hill, Mother Nature had other plans. The weather forecast called for thunder storms. As we all know, rain on your wedding day is good luck, and it was so nice to see how Tia and Ryan didn’t let the rain get in the way of them having their perfect, fairy-tale wedding. I’m a big believer in embracing any weather that happens on your wedding day. More than anything, I want to tell the story of your day and capture all of the details that make it unique and personal to you. Some of the benefits to having rain on your wedding day are the gorgeous moody skies and the soft lighting. When the sun is behind the clouds, that gives beautifully diffused lighting from the clouds acting as a natural soft box. The dark and contrasting skies add for a dramatic effect to your portraits. Since it was a bit chilly out, I had Ryan and Tia hold each other close in their portraits, to keep each other warm. Their ceremony was officiated by Rev. Maureen McLellan in the Grand Room of Skyloft Resort. The large windows allowed for some elegant backlighting, especially when teamed up with our flashes. We also opted for some emotional silhouetted shots, which turned out to be some of my favourites. Following the ceremony Tia and Ryan released some monarch butterflies, which were a wedding gift to the couple. The reception décor was in the rustic style, which fit the location perfectly. The centre pieces, most of the décor, and the boutonnieres were done by the bride. I absolutely love when a couple adds some DIY touches to their wedding, because it makes the wedding more personal and unique. Some of the vintage décor pieces were from Southern Charm Rentals. The flowers used in the centre pieces were delicate white hydrangeas and baby’s breath by The Little Floral Shop. They were placed in a mason jars with burlap and lace wrapped around them, which were also paired up with mini bird cages that had tea light candles in them. These items were put together on a slab of wood, which was such a nice touch. Congratulations Tia and Ryan! It was such a pleasure to capture your wedding!
